Team Dignitas’ HGC Preview: Phase 2 - Week 3

Tue 10th Jul 2018 - 9:03pm

Last weekend, Team Dignitas had two series and ended the weekend with great results. Their series against Method was very close. While the Towers of Doom game felt like a stomp in Team Dignitas’ favour, Method fought back in Game 4 on Battlefield. Overall, it was a very back and forth series, but Team Dignitas was able to clutch out the 3-1 win. For their second series last weekend, Team Dignitas faced off against Monkey Menagerie. There were some fun drafts from both sides, but it seemed that no matter what Monkey Menagerie did, they could not get the upper hand. Team Dignitas took the series with a clean 3-0.

Yrel was the big takeaway from Team Dignitas' games last weekend. She seems to be an unstoppable force in the hands of Jonathan "Wubby" Gunnarsson and there are no signs of her slowing down anytime soon.

Heading into this weekend, Team Dignitas will have another double-set weekend. The pressure will be on against Team Liquid, who seems to be performing quite well so far this season. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming matches.

Team Dignitas vs. Granit Gaming - Friday, July 13th at 11:00 am PDT / 8:00 pm CEST

Granit Gaming has some strong names on their roster but is definitely considered one of the mid-tier teams in the current HGC EU. Their first weekend of games saw them face off against both Fnatic and Method, both being very difficult series. But Granit Gaming showed up in Week 2, as they were able to take Zealots to a Game 5 and close it out for a win. Even with Zealots getting the strong picks like Yrel and Malfurion for most of the games, Granit Gaming busted out some crazy drafts to defeat them. Team Dignitas will have to keep an eye out for possible off-meta drafts from Granit Gaming, as their triple-stealthy composition in Game 5 against Zealots caught them completely off-guard.

Rainer “nande” Wöß has shown his versatility this season, playing the staples like Fenix and Genji but also quirkier picks such as Samuro and Medivh. He is capable on Mages, but with Tassadar creeping back into the Team Dignitas meta, he may need to butt heads with Joshua "Snitch" Bennett on that hero. Genji, Tracer, and Hanzo have been popular bans during the draft, but both of these players have a large hero pool, as Snitch showcased in last weekend’s series against Monkey Menagerie by playing the elusive Zeratul. As this meta evolves, it will benefit the teams that can flex their hero pools to their advantage.

Team Dignitas vs. Team Liquid - Sunday, July 15th at 9:00 am PDT / 6:00 pm CEST

Team Liquid and Team Dignitas are currently battling it out for the top spot in the league, but Team Liquid has yet to face the top teams. They previously won games against Leftovers and Monkey Menagerie and had a very close series with Fnatic which they won 3-2. Team Dignitas will be a different beast, but this new Team Liquid roster is looking to go to the Western Clash.

In the Tank meta, Jerome "JayPL" Trinh has heavily been favouring Garrosh, with much success. The sheer tankiness of Garrosh has JayPL set on the hero as he allows for more flexibility in the rest of the draft, especially in the Support role. Ivan “SportBilly” Koturic hasn’t played a single Garrosh game this season even though he has been playing nearly every other viable Tank. It might benefit Team Liquid to take away the Garrosh to reduce the comfort level of Team Dignitas. Muradin is another Tank that JayPL has been playing a lot recently, and SportBilly has also found Muradin to be a reliable front-liner. Johanna and Diablo are also strong Tank picks at the moment. Team Dignitas have yet to play a Stitches game this season, so we can’t count him out completely, especially since Team Liquid has played him once already.

As usual, the games will be streamed on the BlizzHeroes twitch channel. Don’t forget to use your Twitch Cheers in the HGC chat to cheer for the team and unlock the Team Dignitas Twitch Emotes and in-game Banner, Spray, and Portrait! It’s a great way to support the team and show everyone else who you’re rooting for in HGC. Please be sure to come hang out in the DIGscord with us during the games. We’ve had some spicy (and accurate!) draft predictions as well as some fun banter.
